To profit from genomics and proteomics, the BioVerdant team has
systematically developed automated systems for high throughput
enzyme and microbial screening, enzyme discovery, and protein engineering
to explore a variety of enzyme-catalyzed reactions. By applying
enzymology and process engineering, we significantly expedite the
discovery of enzymes with desired substrate specificity. Our technology
is well suited to the industrial manufacturing of pharmaceutical,
veterinary, and agricultural active ingredients.
Using directed evolution, enzyme mutant libraries
can be engineered with higher reactivity and selectivity, greater
thermal and solvent stability, and favorable inhibition and pH
profiles. A variety of evolution technologies have been developed
including site-directed mutagenesis and gene recombination approaches.
The engineering efficiency and cost-effectiveness of these methodologies
will be dictated by a thorough understanding of the reaction, bioengineering,
and a good balance between random screening and rational prediction
to create a focused, high-quality enzyme library.
